Free museum admission offered

REVIEW-JOURNAL

Nevada residents will get free admission Friday to the Atomic Testing Museum to mark Nevada Day, museum officials said.

Last year, 300 took advantage of the offer to visit the museum at 755 E. Flamingo Road, east of Paradise Road, when the state's holiday was observed.

In addition to exhibits that feature Cold War artifacts and a walk through the history of nuclear weapons testing, the museum promotes programs that encourage a public exchange of views about the Nevada Test Site and its impact on the nation.

The test site, 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, served as the nation's principal, on-continent nuclear proving ground from 1951 until 1992, when full-scale underground tests were put on hold indefinitely.

The museum, in association with the Smithsonian Institution, is a program of the nonprofit Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation.
