From behind the scenes, a Las Vegas man has added muscle to Tiger Woods' revitalized game.

Physical trainer Keith Kleven has helped Woods gain 25 pounds while taking command of his sport with five consecutive tournament wins.

Kleven, a Las Vegan since 1973, has accompanied Woods around the courses for all five tournament wins and will join him for his next two events.

Their connection goes back more than a decade, just before Woods committed to Stanford.

"He came to UNLV to look at the school and to talk to me. I was caddying and working for Mark O'Meara," said Kleven, whose institute is at 3820 S. Jones Blvd.

One of Kleven's latest clients, Greg Maddux of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was a janitor for Kleven years ago at another location.

Woods has become an animal in the gym under Kleven's tutelage. "I send new things to him all the time."

ABOVE IT ALL

The $7 billion MGM Mirage CityCenter will take the Las Vegas pool party scene to new heights.

At 10 stories up, the swimming pool deck at The Harmon -- a 400-room, 240-condominium lifestyle tower -- will offer the highest pool party view on the Strip. It will be operated by The Light Group, according to information leaked from Wednesday's unveiling for senior MGM Mirage management.

Also revealed, the names of the other residential towers:

• A 50-story condominium hotel tower located between Bellagio and the as-yet-unnamed 4,000-room gaming resort at CityCenter will be named VDARA.

• Rising from CityCenter's retail district will be VEER, twin 37-story glass towers with 358 condominium residences each.

• The 400-room Mandarin Oriental hotel will be topped with 227 condominium residences known as the Residences at Mandarin Oriental.

GREENBERG RETIRES

The anxiety level went up a couple of notches at KVBC-TV, Channel 3 with the retirement announcement this week of general manager Gene Greenberg.

His emotional departure, announced on Tuesday and effective at the end of the year, raises the issue of whether the powerhouse NBC affiliate is moving in another direction.

Greenberg has been with KVBC and Sunbelt Broadcasting for 30 years as a loyal lieutenant of owner Jim Rogers.

His retirement follows the recent loss of key newsroom management personnel.

THE PUNCH LINE

"How about Andre Agassi? He played his heart out this weekend at the U.S. Open. His final match and he's retired now. He's retiring because his back is going out. It's the same reason why Paris Hilton no longer makes videos." -- Jay Leno
