Andre Agassi's tennis career is over, but there's no end to the adulation.

At every turn during the U.S. Open, he received a rousing retirement send-off.

Now that he's back home, Las Vegans are showering him with affection.

When Agassi walked into Bleu Gourmet, 8751 W. Charleston Blvd., for a takeout order Friday, about 50 customers broke into applause.

Earlier in the week, he stopped traffic and had heads spinning at N9ne Steakhouse at the Palms, where he was spotted at the bar, having a steak with his coach, Darren Cahill.

FRAN AS DOROTHY

Fran Deane's forced departure as the Clark County recorder last week brought back a surreal moment.

"Don't you know me?" she chirped, during our introduction at Lonnie Hammargren's annual Halloween party three years ago.

I knew she was in a heap of trouble, and I found it odd that she chose to dress as Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz," decked out in a gingham jumper, pigtails and sparkling ruby slippers.

Unlike Dorothy, it's going to take more than clicking her heels to get out of her predicament.

ON CLOUD NINE

The weather gods certainly have a sense of humor. Kevin Janison, recently let go at KLAS-TV, Channel 8, was notified Friday that the National Weather Association has named him Broadcaster of the Year.

With every television meteorologist/weathercaster in the country eligible, Janison said, "I can't think of anything more prestigious in our profession."

The award took into consideration: on-air work, building and administering the weather station network, and community service with schools and charitable organizations.

"It just goes to show you that even at 150,000 miles, I still have a few usable parts," said Janison.
