SHOOTING STARS: Rob and Amber invade Las Vegas

Plenty of people come here to test their luck at the tables. Most of them, however, don't have TV cameras tracking their progress.

Unlike Rob Mariano, who with wife (and fellow reality-TV star) Amber has moved to Las Vegas for "Rob and Amber: Against the Odds."

The Fox Reality channel series began production last week, according to executive producer Linda Ellman, who oversees the show with fellow executive producers Rob George and Christopher Meindl.

While Mariano learns the game from poker ace Dan Negreanu, Ellman says, "Amber's got a whole bunch of projects" -- the initial one involving the set-up of the couple's Las Vegas apartment to surprise her husband.

Two-wheel deal: A new biker build-off series, "Metric Revolution," rolls into town Tuesday following a 114-day, 10,000-mile tour promoting the 22 custom motorcycles competing for top honors.

In addition to several events at the new Hooters casino, locals can check out the bikes -- and vote for their favorites in the cruiser, sportbike and rookie categories -- from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Fremont Street Experience.

A Sunday night wrap party at downtown's Ice House provides the final location for the show, which will hit the airwaves in January, according to executive producer Danielle Spandau.

Extras credit: The "Ocean's Thirteen" gang (led by George Clooney and Brad Pitt -- with Al Pacino as chief nemesis) returns next week for additional location work.

Before then, however, Goldman & Associates is casting background players, ages 18-50, for convention and restaurant scenes.

If you're interested and haven't yet registered with the agency, e-mail a photo (along with contact information) to julie@gacasting.com; a registration form also is available online at www.gacasting.com.

LV 3-D: Germany's Kabel 1 television visits for a broadcast magazine feature about Las Vegas' standout attractions -- which will stand out even more when filmed in 3-D. The report will air during a special 3-D week on Kabel 1.

Directory directions: The countdown clock's ticking for submissions to the Nevada Film Office's annual production directory, which lists everything from A to Z filmmakers might require during Silver State shoots. (OK, A to W: Accommodation Services to Writing services.)

Oct. 6 is the deadline for the 2007 edition; application forms are available online at www.nevadafilm.com. (Or call the film office at 486-2711.)

"We're getting real good testimonials" from locals in the industry whose listings have led to calls -- and jobs, reports NFO director Charles Geocaris. "It's nice to hear it's working for people. That's the only reason we publish it."
