CEREMONIES TO MARK FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF ATTACKS

Various organizations will commemorate the five-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with public ceremonies today across the Las Vegas Valley.

• At 8:45 a.m., Centennial High School's Navy JROTC Color Guard and MountainView Hospital are hosting a ceremony in front of the hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way. The ceremony will end with the ringing of the Navy Bell, signifying the loss of military personnel.

• Beginning at 9 a.m., safety officers will be honored by the Southern Nevada Rotary Club at the Clark County Government Center in the commission chambers, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

• At 10 a.m., at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, a service honoring first responders will be held by the Friends of Red Rock Canyon. U.S. District Judge Philip Pro will be the keynote speaker.

• At 7 p.m., at the Government Center amphitheater, the Clark County Fire Department will host an hour-long patriotic ceremony featuring all local fire departments, many law enforcement agencies and other groups. The amphitheater will be surrounded by 2,973 flags to represent each life lost on Sept. 11.

• Also, the Healing Field, a display of 3,000 flags with the names of the Sept. 11 victims will remain open to the public through Thursday at Palm Mortuary's Northwest location, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., near the Las Vegas Beltway.
