Las Vegas is home to many talented children and teens, and for 28 years, the Performing Arts Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services has presented some of the best in its annual Search for Talent Winner's Showcase.
This year's show at 2 p.m. April 14 in the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, will feature winners in three age categories. Tickets are $5 and are available by calling 229-6211.
KLAS-TV, Channel 8, television reporter Carol Wilkinson is mistress of ceremonies, and up-and-coming rhythm and blues and pop artist Flavaz will make a guest appearance.
Flavaz, consisting of Keisha Christylee Liu, Erika Alise Robinson and Lum Ya Letrice "Lonnie" Brady, is releasing its debut album this year on Brooklyn West Records label.
Search for Talent performers have been selected through auditions and preliminary competitions in three age divisions: primary (ages 6 through 9), junior (ages 10 through 13), and senior (ages 14 through 18).
Primary division winners include vocalists Karley Cyriacks, Ashlyn May, Carly Renner and Kailey Swanson. Junior winners are vocalists Malia Civetz and Brooke Solan, pianist Heidi Kimbrough, and hip-hop dancers Shaina Krashin, Sarah Larabi and Isabel Teuton. Senior winners include vocalists Chelsea Sykora and Briana Torralva, guitarist/vocalist Kirsten Neill, and pianist/vocalist Lynda DeFuria.

Water Authority opens landscape competition
Celebrate the arrival of spring by entering your colorful, water-efficient landscape in the Southern Nevada Water Authority's 2007 Landscape Awards.
Applications are available at snwa.com or by calling the Conservation Helpline at 258-7283.
To enter, residents must submit an application with four to six digital or print color photos highlighting the landscape design and water-efficient features. Entries can be submitted online or by mail. Completed applications are due no later than 5 p.m. May 9.
The Landscape Awards recognize residential and professional water-smart landscapes that are functional and attractive. A properly irrigated water-smart landscape can use as much as 75 percent less water than a traditional turf landscape.
Winners will be announced in June.
All projects must be within the water authority's service area of Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Laughlin and unincorporated Clark County.

Musical Arts Society performs local concert
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society will perform Felix Mendelssohn's symphony-cantata, "Hymn of Praise" (Lobgesang), at 3 p.m. today in UNLV's Artemus Ham Hall, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.
The concert will feature the 65-voice Musical Arts Chorus, 38-piece Musical Arts Orchestra, and guest soloists soprano Jennifer Kittinger Loss, mezzo soprano Juline Barol-Gilmore and tenor Gerald Grahame.
On the same program, Randy Pagel will direct the 120-voice Las Vegas Youth Choristers, accompanied by the Musical Arts Orchestra, in W.A. Mozart's "Te Deum" and the "Magnificat" by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.
Tickets to the "Hymn of Praise" concert are $12 general admission and $10 for seniors, disabled and the military. Students with proper identification will be admitted free. Tickets are available by calling the UNLV Performing Arts Center box office at 895-2787.
