NORM: The Hoff pursues All-Star meeting

Christina Aguilera, left, and Beyonce joined scores of other stars at Tao at The Venetian on Saturday.

David Hasselhoff had a personal interest in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.

Hasselhoff, who stars in "The Producers" at Paris Las Vegas, was at the event to support one of his fans: German star Dirk Nowitzki.

The Dallas Mavs' 7-foot center was 11 when he saw The Hoff in concert in Wurzburg, Germany, Nowitzki's hometown.

"I was one of his childhood heroes and now I'm following him," Hasselhoff said before heading down the red carpet at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Hasselhoff has been hoping to meet Nowitzki since he discovered that the NBA star, one of the league's top free-throw shooters, often relaxes at the charity line by singing "Looking for Freedom," Hasselhoff's hit song. It was No. 1 in Germany for eight weeks in 1989 at the time the Berlin Wall was coming down.

Also on the red carpet, Mayor Oscar Goodman had the visiting media aflutter with his usual two-showgirl grand entrance.

Goodman said the NBA extravaganza rated five diamonds, maybe six of a possible six.

"We're going to get a team, there is no doubt about that," hizzoner said.

Several A-listers chose not to run the media gauntlet. Jay-Z and Beyonce, rumored to be on the rocks, arrived together but took an alternate route that bypassed the gossip hounds, as did Prince, who is known to be media shy.

California first lady Maria Shriver brought mop-haired son Patrick, 14.

Former baseball slugger Dave Winfield was seen pulling "Neon" Deion Sanders into a photo with their wives.

To a smattering of boos, the Hilton sisters, Paris and Nicky, brought their high fashion and beaus du jour to the game. Paris was with Stavros Niarchos, and Nicky stayed close to David Katzenberg, the son of DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg.

Seated far from the Hilton party was Nicky's ex, "Entourage" star Kevin Connolly, and a spy tells me that was not by accident. It was requested.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Katie Rees, the ousted Miss Nevada USA, will host the karaoke and dancing segment of "Beacher's Madhouse," when it launches a new season March 31 at the Hard Rock Hotel. Jeff Beacher said Sunday that it was never his intention to have her host an orgasm contest. "She's going to host the G-rated clean contest," he said.
