SHOOTING STARS: '21' set to hire extras

It's in the cards for "21." And you can deal yourself in on the big-screen adaptation of the best-selling "Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions."

The card-counting drama, from Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions, begins production early next month at the Hard Rock Hotel, Red Rock Resort and Planet Hollywood.

Local casting director Marilee Lear is looking for dealers from the aforementioned casinos to play themselves.

Overall, almost two dozen small roles will be cast, including two female Asian gamblers, ages 40 to 60.

Lear also needs about 150 extras per day for the multiweek shoot.

If you're interested, e-mail your photos and resumé to mlear@learenterprises.com.

(Lear also is casting 50 Screen Actors Guild members for a Feb. 17 Adidas commercial; send information to the above e-mail address.)

Dion goes on: Celine Dion's "A New Day" may be in its final year, but TV cameras are poised to record the Caesars Palace show for posterity -- not to mention an upcoming DVD and TV special.

Wednesday through Sunday, high-definition cameras will capture the show inside Caesars' Colosseum, according to spokeswoman Kris Lingle.

Beyond additional lighting for television, "it will be as close to a show night as possible," Lingle notes. Additional filming will take place backstage and prior to the performances.

Ring thing: Saturday's IBF junior welterweight bout at Paris Las Vegas, featuring Britain's Ricky Hatton vs. Colombia's Juan Urango, has prompted extensive British TV coverage, from the independent ITV to the Sky Sports satellite channel. (HBO telecasts the fight in the U.S.)

Sky Sports' boxing unit will cover the fight itself, while the 24-hour Sky Sports News channel will focus on "the buildup to the fight," from appearances by both boxers to "bits of stuff with the fans," according to reporter Fraser Dainton, who estimates that 3,000 to 4,000 Manchester residents will accompany their hometown hero to Las Vegas.

As Hatton himself commented in a recent BBC interview, "To see my name up in lights on the Strip, that really would be something special."

Quick hits: GSN begins live between-shows programming tonight, airing during episodes of "High Stakes Poker." Tonight's spotlight is on Blue Man Group. (Which explains why the live shoot will emanate from the Rialto Bridge outside The Venetian, the blue crew's showroom home.)

Also visiting this week: Australia's Nine Network, stopping by the Palms' Fantasy Tower and other venues for its "Getaway" travel show, and A&E's "Gene Simmons Family Jewels."
