NORM: O'Donnell gives bouncer a boost

Jaime Kennedy, left, and Michael Madsen were in a promotional frame of mind Tuesday at Pure in Caesars Palace, touting a new film and book, respectively.

The family of Minxx bouncer Tom Urbanski got a much-needed boost Wednesday when Rosie O'Donnell brought up Urbanski's plight during "The View."

Urbanski's father, Don, said O'Donnell was a year ahead of Tom at Commack South High School in New York.

"It's just a little pea-patch of a town," he said, but sportscaster Bob Costas and O'Donnell grew up there.

Tom remains unconscious with a bullet still lodged in his spine, his father said. The injury occurred at the club during a Feb. 19 shooting. Police believe he was shot by an associate of NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones.

"Doctors said they've seen worse. They said there could be a miracle down the line, but not to count on it," Don Urbanski said.

Minxx held a fundraiser for the injured bouncer on Wednesday night.

Donations can be made to: Tommy Urbanski Fund, Silver State Bank, 400 Green Valley Parkway, Henderson, 89074.

CURTIS ON THE MEND

The best news of the day arrived shortly before noon on Wednesday.

The unmistakable voice of Tony Curtis crackled over the telephone. He's alive and well, he said, and happy to report that tabloid death-bed articles about him "have nothing to do with reality."

He added, "They're going to look real silly when they see the photos in Vanity Fair."

The upcoming article includes photos of a rebounding Curtis and some of his favorite tales, including the time he stole a girl away from Frank Sinatra and lived to tell the story.

"Tell everybody I'm still kicking," Curtis said.

RED CARPET REPORT

Michael Jackson didn't make it to Elizabeth Taylor's 75th birthday on Tuesday at the Ritz-Carlton, but his dermatologist did.

Dr. Arnold Klein of Beverly Hills is also famous for introducing his assistant, Debbie Rowe, to Jackson. Rowe, who was married to Jackson from 1996 to 1999, is said to be the mother of Jackson children Prince, 10, and Paris, 8. ...

Steve Wynn's red carpet appearance turned into a horrifying moment for KTNV-TV, Channel 13 reporter Melanie Brooks. As she extended her microphone toward Wynn, he didn't see it as he leaned forward and got bonked on the forehead.

A discombobulated Brooks was heard saying, "Now I'm going to be known as the person who hit Steve Wynn on the head with a mic."

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Yes, that was Paris Hilton sky diving over Boulder City on Feb. 19, the day after the NBA All-Star Game. She jumped tandem with an instructor from Sky Dive Las Vegas, an employee confirmed. I'm told she was a virgin -- at sky diving.

SIGHTINGS

Michael Madsen of "Reservoir Dogs," at Pure (Caesars Palace) on Tuesday for his book signing. Also in the house: Jaime Kennedy, in to promote his new film, "Kickin' It Old School," and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter. ... Howie Mandel, Carrot Top and John Mendoza, at Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab (Forum Shops at Caesars) on Wednesday. ... Carrot Top, back at Hash House A Go Go for the second time in a week for the Kokomo meatloaf sandwich.

THE PUNCH LINE

"Folks are still talking about the Academy Awards. It was long. Britney Spears had a 5 o'clock shadow." -- David Letterman
