North Las Vegas is catching up with the trendy, condo lifestyle that's evolving on the south Strip and other parts of the Las Vegas Valley.
Temple Residential Communities is developing the 168-unit, $25 million Uptown project on 10 acres at Centennial Parkway and Statz Road near the northern Las Vegas Beltway.

The first of six three-story buildings is finished and about a dozen residents have moved into their units, developer Aaron Temple said. The second building is nearly complete and a third building is under construction.
Uptown's architectural design is more of a contemporary style like that of Manhattan and Loft 5 on the south Strip and C2 Lofts in the Summerlin area. Each unit has 10-foot ceilings with large windows and open floor plans to create unique living spaces, Temple said.
Prices start at $258,000 for a two-bedroom, 1,178-square foot unit and go to $294,000 for three bedrooms and 1,436 square feet. Common amenities include a pool, Jacuzzi and clubhouse with a theater room.
"It was a little doing to get this community," Temple said. "We had set it up for apartments, but the market changed, so it took a little longer to hit the ground."
Temple bought the land from U.S. Homes for $1.7 million in 2003. He redesigned the project for condos in 2004 when apartment conversions became the affordable housing option in Las Vegas.
Uptown sold 40 units in the past month after Temple changed his marketing plan. He expects the project to sell out by midsummer.
"They're actually getting people buying from out of state," he said. "One from Chicago, I know. We've got a presentation in Arizona. I think the demand is here, but there's more people from out of state."
The 31-year-old Temple took over Temple Development, founded by his late father, in 1998. He has taken the company from property management to builder of "lifestyle communities."
His first development in North Las Vegas came in 2005 with Senna, 148 single-family attached homes on 18 acres near Centennial Parkway and Commerce Street. The two-story homes are on individual lots, but share a common wall.
The community is about 40 percent developed, Temple said. One of the homes was listed for sale at $429,900 for 2,298 square feet.
Temple also has five acres near Warm Springs Road and Buffalo Drive in the southwest valley with plans for a five-story, "family" condo with mixed-use family services such as a child care center, grocery store and drugstore.
