Pahrump couple arrested in Internet sex sting

By FRANCIS McCABE
REVIEW-JOURNAL

A Pahrump couple were arrested this week after they attempted to seduce what they thought was a 15-year-old Florida girl over the Internet and paid for "her" flight to Las Vegas, federal authorities said.

But Wesley Evans, 36, had actually been exchanging e-mails with an undercover detective from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office in Florida.

Evans was arrested at McCarran International Airport on Tuesday, where he was expecting to pick the teen up, authorities said. He was charged with using a computer to persuade, induce, entice and coerce a minor to travel in interstate commerce to engage in prohibited sexual activity, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

When authorities searched Evans' home in Pahrump, they found a room that had been set up for the mythical 15-year-old, they said. Two computers, electronic media, documents, about two ounces of marijuana and pornography also were seized.

Evans' wife, Jennifer Evans, according to agents, admitted knowing about the 15-year-old girl and of her husband's intent to have sex with her. She also was arrested.
