An overheating Corvette kept Jace Meier from winning the Forza Motorsport Showdown on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old Spring Valley High student was in the lead until a cooling problem knocked him out of the road race at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. A victory would have been worth $100,000 to the winning team.

Meier led after each racing segment but lost the championship to Angela Cope, the only woman among the six amateur contestants.
DRAG RACING -- Justin Lamb of Las Vegas set an NHRA national record in the SS/BS class last weekend with a run of 8.73 seconds at 157.09 mph in his 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt during the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Ariz.

Las Vegan Ken Black is this year's honoree at the Mel Larson Night of Champions dinner that honors Southern Nevadans for their contributions to motor sports.
Black, a former drag racer, owns three NHRA professional teams, and his drivers Greg Anderson and Jason Line have won the last four Pro Stock championships.
The banquet will be April 11 at Bellagio. John Force is the featured speaker.

CHAMP CAR -- Las Vegas resident Alex Tagliani will drive for Rocketsports Racing this year. He will race in the Vegas Grand Prix on April 8.
SPORTS CARS -- The American Le Man Series competes this weekend in the Twelve Hours of Sebring on a road course built on a former World War II airfield near Sebring, Fla.
Tom Kristensen, who set a record last year with his fourth Sebring win, again will team with Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello in an Audi prototype.
Indy Racing League drivers Tony Kanaan and Helio Castroneves are entered in the race, which begins at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Las Vegas-based Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing was the fastest in the first practice session for the GT2 class. The team -- with drivers Tomas Enge, Tim Bergmeister and Memo Gidley -- is competing in a Ferrari F430 GT.
MOTORCYCLES -- Ricky Carmichael will compete in his final Supercross race Saturday at Orlando, Fla.
Carmichael, who has won a record 15 AMA national championships, will focus on developing his skills driving a stock car for NASCAR's Ginn Racing.
Carmichael's decision to end his Supercross career this weekend means he won't be competing in the season-ending May 5 race at Sam Boyd Stadium.
