TASTE OF THE TOWN: Shriners offering sweet onions

Would you like some of the season's sweet Vidalia onions -- without having to go to Georgia to get them? The Shriners have come to the rescue.

Zelzah Shrine Temple is again bringing in Vidalia onions to raise funds to help maintain their center. The onions are $10 for 10 pounds or $6 for 5 pounds; pre-orders are being taken at 382-5554. Any onions that don't sell will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays beginning April 28 (and as long as supplies last) at the Zelzah Shrine Center, 2222 W. Mesquite Ave. Shriners also plan to sell the onions on street corners and at local markets, but in some prior years, they sold out in pre-orders. ...

Speaking of sweet onions: For Ginger Styff, who is looking for Dickinson's Sweet & Hot Pepper & Onion Relish, Dawn Froehlich e-mailed that it can be found at Village Meat & Wine, 5025 S. Eastern Ave.

And B.J. Roth suggested the Harry and David's relish under their own label, available at their stores or through mail order. ...

For Dietmar Jokiel, Chris Jensen of Village Meat & Wine said he carries uncooked veal sweetbreads.

Dean B. Pomerantz suggested Liborio Market, 930 N. Lamb Blvd., and King Ranch Market, which has three locations in Las Vegas.

And Gladyce Ehrlich said pre-packaged sweetbreads can be found at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 8060 W. Tropical Parkway. ...
