NEON WEDNESDAY

Detroit trio likes to play rough

According to its Web site, coed Detroit trio the Hard Lessons once played a gig at the Double Down Saloon shortly after a robbery, performing with the last microphone left in the place.

That's the stuff of legend, and so is the band's sweat-stained rock 'n' roll, all slobbering guitars and spit-shined hooks sealed with a kiss.

Fancying themselves the modern-day incarnation of Ike and Tina Turner, singer-guitarist Augie and singer-organist Ko Ko Louise deliver the come-ons and kiss-offs, while drummer The Anvil keeps the beat real steady like.

What are you doing tonight? The Hard Lessons make it an easy call: Go see this band. The show starts at 10 p.m. at the Double Down Saloon, 4640 Paradise Road. The show is free. Call 791-5775.
