A 58-year-old Las Vegas man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a 2007 Nissan Altima on Wednesday at Lake Mead Boulevard near H Street.
The man, who wasn't identified, was riding his bike westbound on Lake Mead when he veered into the eastbound lane about 10:30 a.m., Las Vegas police said.
The man crossed into the path of Deborah Jamerson, 49, of Las Vegas, who was driving the Nissan.
Police said Jamerson used her brakes and turned to the left to avoid the bicyclist but hit him.
The man was taken to University Medical Center but died from his injuries.
Police said the bicyclist was probably at fault.
Wendy Assadi, who was at the scene of the accident Wednesday, said she had often seen the man riding his bicycle and collecting aluminum cans in the neighborhood.
"He always said, 'How you doing?' and 'God be with you,'" she said.
LAUGHLIN SLAYING
Woman, 60, sentenced in husband's death
A Laughlin woman was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison Wednesday for the fatal stabbing of her husband.
Margaret Joyce Modelfino, 60, was arrested in 2002 after authorities discovered her husband, Gino, 66, dead inside the couple's home.
Witnesses told police that on the night of the slaying, Modelfino was at a bar admitting to the crime.
In February, a jury convicted her of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon on a victim age 65 or older.
