Biffle to face no penalty for failing inspection

Greg Biffle will not be penalized for failing post-race inspection at Bristol Motor Speedway in NASCAR's debut of the Car of Tomorrow.

NASCAR also said Wednesday it planned to inform teams it will relax the tolerances on a height and weight requirement for the COT as the sanctioning body adjusts to reactions in the new car.

The rear of Biffle's fifth-place car was too low after the race -- a violation that is normally found at Daytona and Talladega and typically warrants a penalty. But NASCAR is still adjusting to the COT and how it withstands race conditions.

NASCAR officials studied Biffle's Ford earlier this week and determined that the rear of the car had settled because of normal wear and tear.

Also: Funny Car champion John Force said his team will not compete in this weekend's NHRA national event near Houston and will not return to competition until it's determined what caused driver Eric Medlen's fatal crash March 19 during testing in Gainesville, Fla.

Medlen, 33, died Friday from a severe head injury.

Force said he hopes to return to competition April 12 to 15 when the NHRA competes in Las Vegas.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Virginia receiver injured, expected to miss season

Kevin Ogletree, Virginia's top receiver, suffered a serious knee injury and is expected to miss the 2007 season.

Ogletree tore an anterior cruciate ligament in practice Friday and will require surgery, coach Al Groh said.

Ogletree ranked third in receptions in the Atlantic Coast Conference last season as a sophomore, catching 52 passes for 582 yards and four touchdowns.

Also: Nebraska running back Kenny Wilson broke his leg moving a television and probably will miss the season.

Cornhuskers coach Bill Callahan said Wilson broke his femur during a freak accident Monday and has already undergone surgery.

Wilson ran for 335 yards and four touchdowns on 75 carries as a junior last season.

Scat Daddy favored to win Florida Derby

Scat Daddy drew the No. 3 post position and was made the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Saturday's $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park -- a race that could be a rematch of the Fountain of Youth Stakes.

Scat Daddy, who beat Stormello by a nose in the March 3 Fountain of Youth with Adore the Gold fourth by a length, was among nine 3-year-olds entered for the 1 1/8 mile race. He will be ridden by Edgar Prado.

Stormello, ridden by Victor Espinoza, is the 3-1 second choice and drew the No. 5 post. Notional, with Robby Albarado, drew the No. 1 post and was made the third choice at 4-1.

Adore the Gold, with Cornelio Velasquez, is 6-1 and leaves from the No. 4 post.
