Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Sea of Pleasure - The only trainer who might slow down Ward in the baby races is Chipman; this colt has been streaking fast in the a.m.
Levin Levon - Ward has won every 2-YO drag race run so far; with high purses, it's like winning a small stakes race with a short termer.
Long Shot - Mountain Heather
Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
It's Another Story - Early speed is dangerous and this Koriner filly should get to the lead; her best shot is to bottom out the field.
Lucera - Tactical speed and a good parking lot post to clock the early speed; we'll see if Espinoza can grind it out in the lane.
Long Shot - Lil Nugget
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Callmeluckylucy - She has a lot of back class, Cerin is dropping her down and giving the new bugboy a chance; need not be much to win.
One Mile Belle - Tepid chalk is strictly a vote for Espinoza; this is as wide open a race as you'll see and it starts the pick 6.
Long Shot - Jimmie Pong
Race 4 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $59,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Fantastic New Way - Mullins charge is exiting a very strong allowance race to face these; she should be ready to fire her best shot.
Mabadi - Made a beeline in the stretch to just get up in her U.S. debut; we'll see today if she really is this good, Gryder taking over.
Long Shot - Tahtheeb
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Lochinvar's Gold - We'll find out real quick if bugboy Talamo can handle the heat in the SoCal kitchen; debuts on a well meant favorite.
Rare Exchange - Sharp debut for a barn that typically doesn't drill them first time; with slight improvement, she'll be a handful.
Long Shot - Delicate Cat
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Tee Dee - Two even efforts off the claim by Mullins, she figures to be cranked to deliver today; Pedroza is very live for this barn.
Sarah's Cool Dude - Like the turn back in distance from an elongated sprint for this; blinkers off, she'll need to protect her position.
Long Shot - Katispsublue
Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $55,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Cotton King - Young Talamo debuts with a few live mounts, great way to start his SoCal career; dropping 10 pounds could make a difference.
Tice - His career turned around after being gelded last fall; he has tactical speed to sit a good trip, just can't get over the hump.
Long Shot - Ironstar
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Funky Gal - Sadler claimed her for a Hollywood big shot, if I'm not mistaken; bullet works tells me he wants to impress right off the bat.
Youaremyluckystar - Solid improvement in last with blinkers on, now the blinkers are coming off, why?; cannot ignore the big move forward.
Long Shot - T's Icecoldbeer
Best Bet - Lochinvar's Gold (race 5)
Santa Anita Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$28.00; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 1,097/290/$1,956.60; Long Shots, 550/66/$887.80; Best Bets, 63/25/$106.00
