Donations coming in to help ‘handsome’ convicted felon

The Internet went crazy over Jeremy Meeks’ mug shot last week, but now they’ve moved on to helping him.

Meeks, 30, was arrested in California on June 18 along with four other men during a joint law enforcement gang sweep, according to CBS Sacramento.

His mug shot, posted to Facebook by the Stockton Police Department, then went viral quickly due to his chiseled look and stunning blue eyes.

And now that the Internet is winding down from swooning over his mug shot, they’ve moved on to helping his family.

Katherine Angier, claiming to be Meeks’ mother, set up a GoFundMe page the next day, to help raise funds for legal fees. As of Monday, the page had reached over $3,800 with an overall goal of earning $25,000.

“He has a job and … He was on his way to work,” Angier wrote on the GoFundMe page. “With no gang affiliations as per two of the charges. He has old tattoos..which causes him to be stereotyped. He’s my son and I’m just trying to raise funds to help him in anyway. Please help him to get a fair trial or else he’ll be railroaded.”

Although his family is asking for help with legal fees, they aren’t so excited about the internet fame Meeks has gained from his arrest.

“It’s ridiculous,” friend Rajanique Davis told CBS Sacramento at Meeks’ arraignment on Friday. “People are making jokes when this is not funny at all.”
