Family gifts PS4 to boy who donated smoke detectors

A 9-year-old Dallas boy saved up for nearly a year to buy a PlayStation and then decided to use his savings for smoke detectors.
But he still got the gaming system he had always wanted, thanks to a family inspired by his actions.
“I was going to buy a PlayStation but I decided saving a life was more important ‘cause one life lost is too many,” Hector Montoya told NBCFW.
Hector was inspired to use his savings for smoke detectors instead of a PS4 after he saw a news story about a mother and daughter who died in a fire. They didn’t have a smoke detector.
“Really it just hurt my heart,” Hector said.
After they heard about his story, local firefighters pitched in and helped Hector install nearly 100 smoke detectors in homes that didn’t have them, according to WHNT News.
Then another family stepped in.
Ashton Harder, 19, and his sister, Peyton, 14, who saw Hector’s story on social media, decided they wanted to get the PS4 for him.
“To see a 9-year-old worrying about so many others, you can’t help but want to give him what he wants,” Ashton Harder told NBCFW. “We thought that he deserved something special.”
The Harders made the 45-minute drive to Montoya’s home on Sunday and delivered the gaming system along with an extra $150 for more smoke detectors.
