This week’s 5 best bets for arts & culture in Las Vegas

‘Idaho!’

Tater time’s almost done when it comes to “Idaho!” That’s because the spud-bustin’ musical spoof’s first full production, staged with a hopeful eye toward Broadway, winds up its Smith Center run this weekend. Performances continue at 7:30 p.m. through Sunday, with 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday, in Reynolds Hall; for tickets ($19-$89), visit www.thesmithcenter.com.

Cheyenne Jackson

TV’s “Mad Men” may be gone, but “Music of the Mad Men Era” is hardly forgotten — not with Cheyenne Jackson bringing his solo show of the same name to The Smith Center’s Cabaret Jazz this weekend. The stage and TV veteran (“Glee,” “Xanadu”) performs at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 and 9 p.m. Saturday; for tickets ($39-$65), visit www.thesmithcenter.com.

Steve Turre/Michael Evans Big Band

Musician Steve Turre’s been a “Saturday Night Live” band member since 1984, but he joins the Michael Evans Big Band on Saturday for a concert spotlighting his musical artistry on trombone — and seashell. Vocalist Sandy Wyatt of “Hitzville the Show” joins the lineup for jazz, rock, pop, funk, soul and more from 1 to 4 p.m. at UNLV’s Judy Bayley Theatre. For tickets ($22), visit www.unlv.edu/pac.

‘The Princess and the Pea’

Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved tale springs to life — via life-sized puppets and their accompanying puppeteers — as Utah Puppet Theater winds up Las Vegas’ Family Concert Series with an original, hourlong musical version of “The Princess and the Pea” at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Tickets are $3; for more details, visit www.artslasvegas.org.

‘Steampunk in Wonderland’

Local and national artists explore steampunk — merging science fiction, fantasy and technology inspired by steam-powered 19th-century machinery — in Wonderland Gallery’s group show “Steampunk in Wonderland,” which continues this month at the Arts Factory gallery, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays or by appointment. Visit www.wonderlandgallery.com for more information.
