Britney Spears is getting her own Lifetime movie

LOS ANGELES — Britney Spears is officially stronger than she was yesterday.

The iconic pop star is getting her own Lifetime movie, it was announced Wednesday. Directed by Leslie Libman (“Manson’s Lost Girls”), the telepic will chart the singer’s rise to fame, and will also focus on the peaks and valleys that occurred throughout her career, in front of the cameras and behind the scenes.

Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Cesar!”) is set to star as Spears in the two-hour biopic. The film will also explore the singer’s relationships with Justin Timberlake, Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline.

The TV movie, under the working title “Britney,” will be produced by Asylum Entertainment (“The Kennedys”), with a script written by Anne-Marie Hess (“Perfect High”). Exec producers include Steve Michaels, Jonathan Koch and Joan Harrison. It’s worth noting that Spears does not appear to be affiliated with the production in any way, making this similar to other recent biopics from the network, including “The Brittany Murphy Story” and “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.”

The news precedes the release of Spears’ ninth studio album “Glory,” set for release on Friday, Aug. 26. Spears is also scheduled to perform at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Production for “Britney” will begin Sept. 19 in Vancouver, Canada. The film is scheduled for a 2017 release.

Lifetime recently announced production on a Robert Durst TV movie, a film focusing on the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, and a remake of ’80s tearjerker “Beaches.”
