This week’s 5 best bets for dining in Las Vegas

Solo trip

Yeah, this is something you wouldn’t want to undertake on a date — or, really, when anybody else is watching. It’s the Smorgasbird, the July sandwich of the month at Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken in Downtown Summerlin. It’s stacked with two fried chicken cutlets, caramelized pineapple, lettuce, tomato, pickled cucumbers, special sauce and Game Day Fries, themselves loaded with barbecued pulled chicken, cheddar, sour cream, bacon and pickled peppers. It’s $15, and for every Smorgasbird sold, $5 will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Something new

If you’re a fan of the little dishes, you can now lunch on them at Jaleo at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The restaurant’s new Lunch Like a Spaniard! menu offers a choice of three to four tapas for $25 to $30, with such selections as octopus with potatoes, pimento and olive oil; fire-roasted peppers with eggplant, sweet onions and sherry dressing; or classic Spanish flan with espuma of Catalan cream and orange. You can Lunch Like a Spaniard! from noon to 4 p.m. daily.

Family fun

Who needs a Cadbury egg? In honor of National Ice Cream Month, Ri Ra at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place is offering cones of Cadbury’s 99 Whipped Ice Cream, some variations of which come with one — or two — of the chocolate “flakes” the company makes just for ice cream. And some of them are topped with toffee, raspberry or strawberry sauce or sprinkles. They’re priced at $5 to $8, through the end of the month.

Date night

Everybody likes to save a little money now and then, and the restaurants at SLS Las Vegas are offering a way to do that, while on a date, through the end of August. At Bazaar Meat it’s a signature tasting experience for $75, with $25 wine pairings. At Katsuya it’s a four-course dinner for $45, plus $35 for sake pairings, and at Cleo a $35 four-course dinner, plus $20 for wine pairings.

For friends

Get together with your friends at Glutton, 616 E. Carson Ave., on a Tuesday or Thursday through Aug. 30 and you can share “Toast with Toppings,” available from 5 p.m. to closing. That’s a selection of daily changing varieties of wood-fired crostini topped with such combinations as whipped ricotta and pickled tomato, pork rillettes with pickled apple or avocado with Meyer lemon and shaved chili. Each board carries up to three varieties and comes with your choice from among five summer-centric bottles of wine.
