This week’s 5 best bets for Vegas entertainment

Rod Stewart

Good dad that he is, Rod Stewart not only flies home to his two youngsters in California after his Las Vegas shows but also covered “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” for the Netflix animated children’s show “Beat Bugs,” which debuted this week. He has plenty of his own hits to cover at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Tickets are $49 to $250. Call 888-929-7849.

Boz Scaggs

You might find Boz Scaggs’ bluesy soul (or is that soulful blues?) a little laid-back for Vegas at full tilt. Yet he’s played here so often in recent years, “Lowdown” or “Lido Shuffle” seem to have elbowed their way onto the city’s soundtrack album. Scaggs is back at 8 p.m. Saturday, this time at the Cannery, 2121 E. Craig Road. Tickets are $39.95 to $59.95; call 800-745-3000.

Kathleen Madigan

Veteran stand-up Kathleen Madigan golfs and drinks with Ron White and Lewis Black but has maintained a more neutral comedic image than either of them, allowing her to talk about the party life or politics without either of them defining her. She’s back at The Mirage at 10 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $32.69 to $54.49; call 702-792-7777.

Louie Anderson

If you didn’t get the subversive side of Louie Anderson’s stand-up amid all his Midwestern family recollections, then you might have been more surprised to find him playing Zach Galifianakis’ mother in the bizarro cable comedy “Baskets.” But now you can help him celebrate his supporting actor Emmy nomination when he returns to the South Point at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $15 to $25; call 702-797-8055.

Hip-hop dance championships

If you dig the Jabbawockeez, dive deeper into the B-boy subculture that created them with a full week of hip-hop dance competition. Sunday brings the finals of the USA Hip Hop Dance Championship to Westin Lake Las Vegas, 101 Montelago Blvd., Henderson. Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. event are $25 at hiphopinternational.com. Come back to the Westin pretty much all day Tuesday through Thursday for the World Hip Hop Dance Championship.
