This week’s 5 best bets for Vegas entertainment

Steve Miller Band

For most of its 40-plus years, the Steve Miller Band has not been synonymous with controversy. So it was a bit of a surprise when the namesake joker, smoker and midnight toker put the badmouth on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after the band’s April induction. Let’s hope Miller has a better time when he plays the The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $39 to $119; call 800-745-3000.

Sugar Ray, Everclear

Reunited and it feels so good: A couple of years ago, Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath and Everclear’s Art Alexakis agreed to split their Summerland tour into separate pop and guitar-rock ventures. But now they are back on the same stage, along with Lit and Sponge, rockin’ the ’90s at 7 p.m. Friday at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. Tickets are $32.11 to $55; call 800-745-3000.

George Lopez

George Lopez has been touring arenas with Rio mainstay Eddie Griffin and frequent Strip headliners D.L. Hughley, Charlie Murphy and Cedric the Entertainer. The upcoming BET series “Comedy Get Down” will be based on backstage stories from the tour of the same name. But you can have Lopez all to yourselves and in a cozier venue when he returns to The Mirage at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $65.39 to $87.19; call 702-792-7777.

Starship with Mickey Thomas

Too bad Mickey Thomas and Starship will be a few miles away and onstage at the same time Friday as the Rio’s “Rock of Ages,” because they’ll miss “We Built This City.” Ah well, figure they’ve heard it. And you can hear the original guy’s version at 8 p.m. in The Railhead at Boulder Station. Tickets are $27 to $57; call 800-745-3000.

Earl Turner with Elisa Fiorillo

Elisa Fiorillo has mostly reinvented herself as a jazz singer since the days when she was mentored by Prince. But master showman Earl Turner is paying tribute to “Musical Icons” at South Point, and one of those icons just happens to be, well, you know. See Fiorillo as his special guest at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $20 to $30; call 702-797-8055.
