AMERICAN HEROES CHALLENGE featuring 20 teams of military, law enforcement and security professionals participating in the firearms and tactics competition which will include scenarios involving an obstacle course, combat search and rescue, hostage rescue, building searches and other tasks, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday at Desert Sportsman's Rifle & Pistol Club, 12201 W. Charleston Blvd., and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at American Shooters, 3440 S. Arville St. The event is free and open to the public. A vendor village will be onsite for attendees to sample product and participate in demonstrations. Proceeds will go toward the construction of a Veterans Memorial in Las Vegas.
VETERANS DAY PARADE the parade will be presented at 10 a.m. Wednesday and will begin at Fourth Street and Gass Avenue and end on Fourth Street and Stewart Avenue.
'LIGHT UP THE HEART OF A CHILD' the Children's Heart Foundation presents a holiday stroll through the Gift of Lights with holiday carols, Santa Claus, treats and more, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. The holiday attraction will be open for pedestrian access only Wednesday. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 day of. Children ages 2 and younger are free. FIRST FRIDAY First Friday, a monthly cultural open house and street festival in the downtown Las Vegas arts district, will be presented 6-10 p.m. today. A roundtable discussion on the history of military in Clark County featuring Al O'Donnell, former employee of the Nevada Test Site, T.D. Barnes of the Roadrunners veterans' group for SR 71/A-12 pilots and historian Mike Green will be at 6 p.m. at Clark County Government Center Rotunda, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
