Bail raised in shooting of 8-year-old

Bail was increased Friday for a 22-year-old man charged with shooting an 8-year-old boy during a drive-by shooting.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eugene Martin raised Carlos Reyes' bail from $40,000 to $140,000.

Reyes is charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, in the July 25 incident.

"That's one of those cases we read about in the newspaper," Martin said.

According to the arrest report, the 8-year-old boy, identified as Bruce, was with his 13-year-old sister and three younger siblings on Kell Lane, near Lake Mead and Lamb boulevards, when shots were fired from a passing car about 4 p.m.

Bruce was struck in the chest, and the bullet lodged in his shoulder. He is expected to survive.

Authorities said that another car was the intended target.

Reyes was arrested Tuesday. He has served time in prison for burglary, and in 2006 faced a charge of assault with a deadly weapon that was dismissed, court records show.
