CCSD teacher’s aide lured boy through Facebook, police say

A Clark County School District teacher's aide who was arrested Saturday on charges of open and gross lewdness exchanged at least four sexual photos with a former middle school student before luring the boy to his apartment, according to Las Vegas police.

Charles Darville Young, 29, who has been employed by the Clark County School District since 2011, was arrested after North Las Vegas detectives found Facebook messages exchanged between him and a 15-year-old Canyon Springs High School student.

Police on June 2 received reports that a different 15-year-old student had been smoking marijuana with a teacher from Sedway Middle School, according to an arrest report made public Monday. Detectives asked about anyone else who might have had inappropriate contact with the teacher's aide, and the student told them about Young's relationship with another student who had attended Sedway.

The second student told detectives Young started harassing him on Facebook at the middle or end of the 2013-14 school year, when the boy was in 8th grade.

Young would write things like, "hi daddy," in messages to the boy, he told police in the report, but Young never spoke that way at school.

According to Young's arrest report, the boy told police he and Young talked about meeting up and being together. Young sent the boy sexually explicit messages about things he wanted to do to the student, the arrest report said.

After the boy left Sedway, the two stopped talking on Facebook for almost a year, the report said, but in February, the two had exchanged at least four sexually explicit photos of one another.

One day after that, the boy posted on Facebook that he was home sick from school and was bored, the police report said. Young then messaged him to ask if he wanted to come to his apartment, and the boy said yes, the report said.

Young picked the boy up in a pickup down the street from his house and took him back to his apartment, the report said. The boy was washing his hands in the bathroom and asked Young for a towel when he said Young touched him inappropriately, the boy told police.

He then told Young he wanted to go home, and Young dropped him off down the street from his house, the boy told detectives.

When interviewed by police, Young confirmed details of the boy's story but denied touching him inappropriately. He said that he asked the boy for a kiss and that the boy then said he was uncomfortable and wanted to go home, Young's arrest report said.

The teacher's aide admitted to detectives multiple times that he had intended to have "sexual contact" with the boy when he picked him up and brought him to his apartment, Young's arrest report said.

Young also told police he needed help for his "actions" and knew what he did was wrong, the report said.

He said that he had not had sexual contact with any other students and that he never smoked marijuana with a student.

Young has been employed at Sedway Middle School as a teacher's aide since he was hired and worked with the special-needs children at the school, his arrest report said.

He confirmed to detectives that he was suspended from the school district on June 3 for "talking to students," his arrest report said. The district said Monday Young's suspension is unpaid.
