Coroner identifies clerk killed in store shooting

The Clark County coroner's office on Monday identified the convenience store clerk killed in a double-shooting that also left a would-be robber dead late Saturday night.

William L. Burhoe, 77, of Las Vegas, died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Las Vegas police officer Marcus Martin, a police spokesman, said the shooting happened about 11:40 p.m. at a Supermart in the 6500 block of Smoke Ranch Road, near U.S. Highway 95.

The suspect, who was not identified by police or the coroner's office, entered the store and placed beer on the cashier counter, police said.

It's not clear what was said between the clerk and the suspect, but shots were fired and both men were killed, Martin said.

More information is expected to be released this week, Martin said.

"They're reviewing the tapes," he said.

It was unclear whether there were witnesses inside the store at the time of the shooting.
