1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Reno-Sparks

RENO — A man is dead after an incident involving police officers in a neighborhood near the boundary of Reno and Sparks.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation that began Thursday afternoon on the reports of a suicidal person and ended with shots being fired.

The person was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Officers from both the Reno and Sparks police departments had responded to the call on Belcrest Circle.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported Friday that the officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave while an investigation is conducted. Witnesses told the newspaper they saw a man carrying a shotgun and heard multiple shots fired.

No officers were injured.
