A 28-year-old mentally ill patient has confessed to a five-year-old homicide in order to get out Rawson-Neal psychiatric hospital and into jail, according to a Las Vegas police report.
Henry Perez was charged with five counts, including murder, in relation to the June 7, 2008 fatal shooting of Alejandro Nunez Fuentes.
The case went cold years ago, but warmed up earlier this month when Perez called police to say he was the shooter. “I confessed, get me out of here and just put me in jail,” Perez told Mogg, according to the arrest report.
Perez was in the psychiatric hospital because he is schizophrenic.
Homicide detective Cliff Mogg said he was skeptical at first. However, Perez knew intimate details of the homicide that were never made public.
Perez told Mogg the shooting happened after an argument with Fuentes. Both men were dealing drugs, Perez said.
Perez was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He’s being held without bail.
