Man dies after beating near Rainbow and Charleston

A man who was beaten early Thursday afternoon near Rainbow and Charleston boulevards has died from his injuries, Las Vegas police said.

The identity of the deceased man, described as elderly by police, was not released.

Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said at 12:15 p.m. a man was seen beating up the victim. When police arrived, the suspect had fled. The victim was found with "very serious injuries," Meltzer said. He died at University Medical Center.

Two people have been detained for questioning. Homicide detectives were investigating, Meltzer said.
