An argument in an apartment complex in the southeast valley turned into a shootout that left one man dead after midnight Tuesday, police said.
Detectives arrested 31-year-old Elekaua Brown on one count of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Formal charges had not been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded about 12:30 a.m. to a parking lot at Sonoma Hills apartments in the 5100 block of East Tropicana Avenue, near South Nellis Boulevard.
Officers found a man pulling another man with gunshot wounds towards an apartment building. Police did not initially give any identifying information about the person who was shot.
Police records later identified the man as Christopher Lamar Randle Jr.
A witness told police that Randle was standing next to his father, Christopher Lamar Randle Sr., who was armed and arguing with another man.
Brown, also called “Pola” in the report, walked up, pulled a gun out of his waistband and shot the unarmed son.
The witness said Randle Sr. returned fire at Brown.
Randle Jr. was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.
During questioning, police said Brown thought there was only going to be a fight, but he confessed to shooting Randle Jr. after his father pointed a gun at his friend. He said he threw the gun out the window on the way to a nearby Jack in the Box restaurant with his friends.
