Officers, suspect identified in Pahrump gunfight

The Nye County Sheriff's Office has identified the man and the two deputies who traded gunfire in Pahrump Saturday afternoon.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said Edward Garza, 55, initiated a gunfight with Nye County sheriff's deputies Summer Dannecker and Wes Fancher around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday from the front yard on Manse Road. Both deputies returned fire and hit Garza multiple times.

Garza was released from University Medical Center in Las Vegas on Thursday and is currently being held at the Nye County Sheriff's Office on $500,000 bail. He is expected to face two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and additional weapons charges, DeMeo said.

The sheriff's deputies were not injured and have been placed on paid leave.

Dannecker has been with the sheriff's department for seven years; Fancher for two years.
