Pahrump boy accidentally shoots himself, man arrested

A man was arrested Tuesday and accused of child endangerment after a 13-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the thigh while in a home with several unsecured weapons, the Nye County sheriff's office said Thursday.

The identity of the injured boy was not released. He was in stable condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Authorities said Casey Taylor was booked into the Nye County Detention Center on $5,000 bail. His wife, Tina Taylor, also will face recommended charges in connection with the boy's shooting.

Deputies said they were called to Taylor's home and discovered the 13-year-old boy playing with a .22 caliber revolver with a 15-year-old.

Authorities said the revolver belonged to the 15-year-old, who was given the weapon by Casey Taylor, who was not home during the incident. Tina Taylor, who was in a wheelchair, was at the residence during the shooting.

Deputies and detectives said they discovered several rifles at the home that were unsecured although there was a gun safe at the residence. The weapons were in the open with ammunition in the magazines, but they were not chambered, authorities said.
