Remains found in Virginia City septic tank are human

VIRGINIA CITY — Authorities in Northern Nevada have confirmed that remains pumped out of a septic tank north of Virginia City are human.

Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro said Wednesday his office is now treating the case as a homicide. He said the person’s gender and identity are unknown, and added that the body might have been in the tank for up to 25 years.

The remains were reported to the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Antinoro said the current residents at the house have lived there for decades, but aren’t suspected of any wrongdoing. He didn’t release their names and address.
