An armed man egged on by his companion was behind a fatal shooting at a northeast valley apartment complex Thursday night, Las Vegas police said.
Terrence Renda McClodden, 29, of North Las Vegas has been arrested and charged with murder with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in or at a structure. Darrell Keshawn Fitzgerald, 28, of Las Vegas has been arrested and charged with murder.
The shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at an apartment on the 6900 block of Hopkins Drive.
Tinisha Cook, one of two victims in the shooting, told police she looked out her apartment window and saw her boyfriend, Exavian Jones, and her 13-year-old son in a confrontation with a group of men.
The group included McClodden, who calls himself "Boo Gangster," and Fitzgerald, who goes by "Bam," according to an arrest report.
Police said Cook escorted her boyfriend away at the beginning of the confrontation, which may have started after a round of "celebratory gunfire" was fired in the complex.
Witnesses told police that Fitzgerald encouraged McClodden, who was holding a silver-plated handgun, to "hurry up" and "shoot."
McClodden fired several times at Cook and Jones. One bullet grazed Cook's forearm. Another hit Jones in the chest. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.
Police later found a bullet fragment in one of the apartment's bedrooms, the same room where Cook's other son was playing video games. Police say McClodden and Fitzgerald fled the scene on foot.
Fitzgerald was arrested at his Las Vegas apartment Monday after several witnesses told police that McClodden had fired the weapon while Fitzgerald encouraged the crime. Fitzgerald denied any involvement in the shooting.
An arrest report for McClodden, who also was arrested Monday, has not yet been released. His criminal history includes two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance in 2003 and trafficking in controlled substances in 2005.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
