Driver will be charged in U.S. Highway 95 death

The driver who Nevada Highway Patrol says hit and killed a man on U.S. Highway 95 near the Summerlin Parkway exit Monday night faces charges in his death.

Gary Richard Adair, 22, was under the influence of drugs when he hit 38-year-old Kadar Lee Brown about 5:30 p.m., according to trooper Loy Hixson.

Brown was on the right shoulder of U.S. 95 changing a flat tire when Adair hit him with his Dodge Durango, Hixson said. It was originally reported that Adair was suffering from a diabetic episode when he hit Brown, but Highway Patrol confirmed Adair was driving under the influence of drugs.

Adair, who remained at the crash scene, was booked on a charge of driving under the influence resulting in death. His preliminary court hearing is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. today.
