Early morning crash sends two people to the hospital

A two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning sent two people to the hospital with critical injuries.

The collision on the westbound Harmon Avenue overpass at Interstate 15, occurred just before 3 a.m. when the driver of a 2003 Toyota Camry tried to move from the center to left lane and struck the right side of a 2003 BMW 760Li, according to Las Vegas police.

Statements from 33-year-old Alma Gomez, the Toyota driver, and evidence at the scene indicate the driver of the BMW then lost control, hit the median, traveled into the eastbound lanes of Harmon and struck a concrete barrier.

The passengers of the BMW, 43-year-old Marc Kmetz and 31-year-old Anne Carter, were taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries.

The driver of the BMW, Jacob Chavez, 35, was hospitalized with serious injuries and was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a felony DUI charge.

The accident remained under investigation.
