Las Vegas police arrested a man Monday in last week’s deadly shooting near a downtown convenience store.
Alan Sosa, 18, was booked at the Clark County jail on murder and other charges in connection with the March 3 shooting of 27-year-old Juan Cervantes.
Cervantes and his wife, Christine Mata, had gone to a convenience store near 21st Street and Elm Avenue to purchase cigarettes. Mata told police she was inside the store when an argument broke out between Cervantes and a young man standing outside the entrance, according to a police report.
Mata and Cervantes drove away from the convenience store, but Mata soon pulled over when a group of four people on the opposite side of the street told her to stop the car and call 911, police said.
Mata got out of the car and confronted Sosa, who was in the group. Sosa pulled a gun from his waistband and fired one shot at her but missed, the report said. Mata told police she saw her husband running toward her, heard two more gunshots and saw him lying on the ground.
Detectives identified Sosa using surveillance photos, witnesses and conversations from Facebook, the report said.
