After garage fire, man dies from unrelated injuries

A man who escaped a garage fire in a home later died from unrelated injuries early Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to reports of a blaze around 12:30 p.m. at 7053 Abbyville Drive, near Warm Springs Road and Paradise Road. Crews were able to contain the fire to the garage, officials said.

The man and a woman escaped the house before firefighters arrived, according to Capt. John Steinbeck of the Clark County Fire Department. They were transported to St. Rose Sienna, where the man later died.

The cause of the man's death is under investigation. It doesn't appear that flames or smoke caused their injuries, Steinbeck said.

The fire was caused by a nail that had gone through a wire, which heated up the wood enough to ignite it, he said.

Damages from the fire were estimated at $40,000.
