Arson suspected in house fire in North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas fire investigators believe a house fire was purposely set to injure firefighters Saturday afternoon, department spokesman Captain Cedric Williams said.

But no one was hurt in the 4 p.m. blaze in a vacant two-story house on Strawberry Roan Road, near Gowan Road and Decatur Boulevard, he said.

After crews put out the fire, which started on the second story, investigators determined the cause was arson with the intent to injure responders, Williams said. He said he could not release what led investigators to that belief but said it was "obvious."

Damage was estimated at $100,000.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call 702-633-1102.

"We take this very seriously," Williams said. "We aren't going to stop until we find who caused this fire."
