Baby born after Friday accident near Circus Circus has died

A baby that was born prematurely after its 27-year-old mother was struck by a car Friday night near the Strip has died, Las Vegas police said.

The 27-year-old woman, who was six months pregnant, was walking across the eastbound lanes of Circus Circus Drive, just west of Las Vegas Boulevard South, outside of a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a 2014 Ford Focus traveling eastbound on Circus Circus, police said. The woman was knocked to the ground.

She was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, and the baby was delivered at the hospital. The Clark County coroner’s office said the baby died Saturday.

Police were unable to provide the condition of the 27-year-old woman on Monday.

The 24-year-old driver was not injured. The incident remains under investigation.
