A Las Vegas judge set bail at $100,000 Wednesday for the man charged with murder in a fatal shooting at the Palms last week.
Justice of the Peace Joe Sciscento also ordered that if Jim Johnson, 25, of Las Vegas, is able to post bail he will be placed on house arrest and have no firearms.
Prosecutors were asking for bail to be set at $500,000. Defense lawyer Bill Terry asked for $50,000.
Terry told Sciscento that Johnson’s family should be able to post the bail set.
Las Vegas police said the shooting happened May 15 around 9:30 p.m. Police responded to the Fantasy Tower in the Palms and found Henderson resident Evan Plunkett with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Plunkett was taken to University Medical Center and later died.
The shooting happened during a party with about 50 attendees, police said. They believe Plunkett got into an argument with three other men before he was shot. The three men were gone when police arrived at the hotel, which temporarily was locked down after the shooting.
Terry said Johnson was trying to intervene in the fight and slap a bottle out of Plunkett’s hand when the gun discharged. The handgun, a Glock, did not have a safety, Terry said.
