Bicyclist dies in collision with taxi in central Las Vegas

A bicyclist died Friday after an overnight collision with a taxi in the central Las Vegas Valley, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Around 11:45 p.m. Thursday night, a white Toyota Scion XB taxi was traveling east on Spring Mountain Road in the right travel lane approaching the Mel Torme Way intersection, trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said. The taxi had a green light and proceeded east toward the intersection.

Vincent Foster, 49, was on a bicycle traveling from the north side of Spring Mountain Road to the south in a marked crosswalk. Foster rode into the path of the taxi, despite a “No Walk” signal, resulting in the collision, the highway patrol said. Foster was ejected from the bicycle and taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead Friday at UMC.

The male taxi driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The taxi had no passengers onboard, and the driver was not issued a citation.

This marks the Nevada Highway Patrol-Southern Command’s 49th fatal crash resulting in 53 fatalities for 2016.
