Catholic Charities needs food bank volunteers

A local nonprofit is in need of volunteers as the number of people coming into its food pantry jumped to 7,500 from 5,500 in about a month.

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada late last month improved and changed the format of the food pantry to resemble a grocery store and expanded its hours, said Leslie Carmine, spokeswoman for the nonprofit. The increase in people coming into the food pantry per month is partly due to those changes.

The food pantry is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“I think we anticipate it will probably continue to increase,” Carmine said. “More volunteers would help us.”

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. Those under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult, Carmine said. Interested volunteers can sign up at on the volunteer tab or call 702-366-2081.
