Henderson police announce Super Bowl season DUI crackdown

If you don’t want to be flagged for excessive celebration this Super Bowl season, don’t drink and drive. Authorities will be cracking down on impaired drivers, Henderson police said Thursday.

Stepped-up enforcement will begin Friday and run until Feb. 2, the day after the big game, the police department said in a release.

In a joint effort, Clark County and Nevada law enforcement will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and will set up DUI checkpoints, police said.

Football stadiums stop selling alcohol at the end of the third quarter, which is when police suggest party hosts stop serving drinks.

Hosts should make sure impaired drivers don’t get behind the wheel and should arrange carpools with sober drivers.

This enforcement effort is known as Joining Forces, a grant-funded interdepartmental task force funded through the Nevada Department of Public Safety. The grant is aimed at enforcing traffic safety and educating drivers on roadway dangers.

The Nevada Highway Patrol plans to say more about the campaign in a Friday media event.
