Henderson police officer faces DUI charge

A Henderson police officer was arrested Thursday on several charges in connection with a DUI, according Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman trooper Loy Hixson.

Joseph Lawrance , 31, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on 11 charges, including DUI, giving a false statement to police, driving the wrong way and possession of a controlled substance, among others, detention center records show.

NHP received reports of a truck traveling the wrong way on U.S. Highway 95 near Durango Drive just before 1 a.m. Thursday. A nearby trooper spotted the Toyota Tundra pickup shortly after and eventually got him to pull over, Hixson said.

In the course of a pat down during the traffic stop, the trooper identified Lawrance as a Henderson police officer, Hixson said.

Lawrance was a sergeant for the College of Southern Nevada police before joining the Henderson police department in 2012, according to public employee payroll records.

Lawrance is currently on paid administrative leave, Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.
