Look out for Leprechauns stopping traffic

The Nevada Department of Public Safety will rely partly on the luck of the Irish to keep several crosswalks safe on Thursday, the Nevada Department of Public Safety said in a statement.
An officer will be dressed as a leprechaun again this year to raise awareness for pedestrian safety.
Police officers with the Clark County School District, Henderson and Nevada Highway Patrol will join together Thursday, beginning at 8 a.m. at Boulder Highway and Corn Avenue, where one of 12 pedestrian fatalities of Boulder Highway happened in 2015, the department said in a statement.
Boulder Highway was the worst stretch of road in Southern Nevada in 2015, accounting for 20 percent of pedestrian fatalities and 8 percent of overall road fatalities, the statement says.
The leprechaun will appear at 1 p.m. at a school crossing zone at Tropicana Avenue and Morris Street, the statement says.
Drivers who don’t yield to the leprechaun will have to deplete their pots of gold — by paying traffic tickets. St. Patrick’s Day is listed as one of the top five holiday’s for DUI fatalities, the release says.
