Man found shot to death in car identified

A man found dead inside a car in the central valley Friday evening has been named by the Clark County coroner's office.

Leon Max Velasquez, 21, of Las Vegas, died of gunshot wounds of the head and torso, the coroner's office said Sunday. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police were called about 11:45 p.m. Friday to 1948 Cindysue Street, near Rancho and Vegas drives, where they found Velasquez in a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds, police said Saturday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metro detectives determined Velasquez was inside the vehicle with the shooter when he was shot and killed, the department wrote in a release.

The shooter, described as a black man between 18 and 20 years old wearing a red hoodie, tan shorts and braided hair, fled the scene, according to the release.

This is the 18th homicide investigated by Metro this year.
