Man killed in auto-pedestrian accident identified

The 50-year-old man killed in a Friday morning auto-pedestrian accident in the northeast valley was identified Saturday by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Byron Pope died of multiple blunt force injuries due to a pedestrian-versus-vehicle accident, the coroner said.

Pope was crossing Meikle Lane, west of Ringe Lane near Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards, about 1:30 a.m. when he was struck by a white cargo van traveling east on Meikle. The van continued south on Ringe and fled the scene.

Pope was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
